Meet Baxter!

He’s here! He’s a 12 week (or so) old Beagle. Isn’t he adorable? We love him so! And it’s a good thing, because so far, he has destroyed two rolls of toilet paper (1000 sheets each!!!! Looked like a snow storm!), eaten a throw rug, and he’s chewing on the corners of the kitchen cabinets. I am hoping bitter apple spray will remedy that.

Oh, and he has no idea that he should go potty “outside”. We take him outside at the slightest indication he is about to “go”. He then runs around for an hour trying to wear us down so we will bring him back inside. And the second he’s back- BAM! There he goes. He is paper trained- sort of. But the concept of actually “making” outside completely alludes him. I have even taken the wee wee pads outside. It’s just not happening. It gets cold out there!!! We are being consistent though. we will keep taking him outside when he starts to squat and hopefully some day very soon, he will actually do his business outside. Until then, wee wee pads are our life.

He also doesn’t like treats. What kind of dog doesn’t like treats? I have tried Nutrapup sticks, Caesar pieces, puperoni, biscuits, all the various kinds. Nada. Not interested. Someone mentioned dehydrated lamb’s lungs. But just saying that grosses me out, not to mention carrying a pocket full of them. I wanted to click train him, but that wont work without a treat he likes. Even his kibble he doesn’t love. So that will be out as a treat too.

But it’s only been a few days, and he is very young. Just like my little boy. He just turned two. I am pretty sure he won’t be potty trained any time soon either. And he’s a very picky eater. They have very similar personalities. Which means, I have my work cut out for me! I reiterate… it’s a good thing they are cute!
